During the "hypo jet" cleaning, there were lots of finger nail size particles that looked like small stones, but turned out to be just grease.....disgusting...

All hinges on the cupboards were banged loose food particles and dust everywhere..it was just really a bad situation that I’m glad is over .

Especially the cheap crap on particle board from the big boxes.

There's some nuance to my situation since the place has not been remodeled - has old carpeting, tile, and particle board cabinets.

The third material of concern is composition board siding, it can either be planks or panels, but it’s pretty much just particle board. 

If there are "soft spots" in the floors, this means there was water damage, and the particle-board sub-floor is toast.

Some of these lock-together planks have compressed wood/particle board under the first layer....so they will not last long up to typical renters.

The newer cabinets tend to be cheap particle board crap that falls apart and if any water gets on them or a pipe leak they blow up and crumble apart fast.If you have solid wood you might want to keep them and just refinish with maybe new hardware.If this is a rental versus a resale you want to not over improve.If you need appliances there are often (scratch and dent) sales from Home Depot and other places where the product is new to almost new.

The basement had been clean and dry, but apparently encountered a moisture problem over the summer and now the back sides (all exposed particle board) of the cabinets are covered in green and white mold.

What I didn’t like was the high gloss finish (which can scratch if abused) and the particle board construction.
