Given the option, would you bid on an auctioned townhouse built in the 90s that appears to be in decent shape but is generally an unknown or an auctioned house built in the 60s that shows serious pride of ownership (looks great from the outside—flowers, plants on the porch, wreath on door, etc.)?

So on the one hand we're paying a premium in a tight market but on the other all the homes seem to need a kitchen and bath reno not to mention outlets, paint, flooring etc.  

I went by the house yesterday to water to flower bed since its not hooked up to irrigation (yet).

.- two units are down to the studs, junction boxes and some wiring/outlets done (owner is a licensed electrician), need a couple of walls removed, nothing blatantly tricky going on.

Or if you want to upgrade from 2-prong to 3-prong outlets (which also reduces fire hazards, and also makes your life more convenient if you live there) that requires re-wiring the circuit.3.

A home built in 1972 will most likely not have GFCI outlets in the kitchen and baths for one example.   

Safety locks on all outlets, etc.
