I originally offered $600 (+$25 for dog) rent price for them to share a room and share a spare bedroom with me for storage.  50% split use of the house between myself and them (which the couple combined realistically probably uses more than 50% of the house) They counter offered this first month for $500 based on the current construction status of the house.

Either way, one can get a lifetime registration status regardless of number of offenses, so a person can register 25 years or for life only committing one offense. 

I think I have a very good shot at IRC 162 trade or business status based upon the case law and my facts.

They are fully documented and fully legal.I don't know if a credit/criminal would show anything but you should definitely require proof of their ITIN to verify identity and their legal status.
