I found a great SFR in Suffolk County, Long Island, NY that needs work.

My goals involve building long-term wealth through buying and holding rental properties, however, my largest barrier to entry is obtaining down payment a such a hot market.Since graduating in 2016, I have been working as a digital marketing consultant and paying $850/mo in rent living with 3 others.

I plan to buy my first house in 2019  would really like to house-hack.Ideally, I would prefer a house in Long Island but will be willing to settle for Queens, depends on the neighborhood.What are your thoughts on buying a single family and convert to multi-family for hacking?

For example if i want to hire a craftsman to build island for kitchen reno and he’d like to stay in property for the week instead of payment... is that prohibited?

I also have found that my largest gaps are in finding a deal, estimating repair costs, and estimating expenses.

Within our smallest budget yet we added square footage to the basement, a big third bedroom in the attic and loads of goodies in the kitchen including a custom island we built and quartz countertops we cut!
