I've just been looking at comparisons of the two myself.

My wife and I are in a similar situation (I've just left my job) and would like to rent a place for a year in a new town so we have a chance to figure out what parts of town we like before buying/building.  

I purchased the book Low and No $ down, but recently found out there's an audio copy.

We recently found out a sink would not drain.

Another thing I've just learned since joining biggerpockets.Yes they are in similar neighbors, and I do intend to buy and hold.Yes there is significant appreciatetion, with the 2 bed ill get 40k in automatic appreciation and with the 1 bed its 10k appreciation as I am buying them at discount.

I recently found a house on y block that is empty with a lock box.
