I grew up watching my Dad rehab, flip and rent homes, so I've seen (and done) some of the grunt work, but I have yet to get my own skin in the game.On the flip side, my Mom has had a house that I've worked with a property manager to keep rented for the last 10 years or so.

I grew up in Southern RI (Richmond), and went to URI in Kingston, so Providence was somewhat foreign to me (30 minute drive in RI is drastically different), but have been to downtown quite a bit, Wickendon Street, Federal Hill, etc., just not the Mt.

I grew up in New York and worked in Manhattan most of my career for a fortune 50 company that maintained building systems and my accounts were in the financial district (American Express, Merrill Lynch, Chase, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, Bank of NY, AIG Building) and I got to see first hand what 2007/08 did to people and that still scares me.

My parents grew up in San Leandro and Castro Valley and my grandparents still live in SL, so I get down that way every so often.
