If the LLC now owns a new piece of Real Estate, wouldn’t it stand to reason that the new property may be at risk of seizure in a law suit that ends in plaintiff’s favor?

On the bright side, the consulting has no real assets, all the funds pass-through to me almost immediately - I'm not afraid of a lawsuit stemming from the property resulting in much seizure of any assets at all related to the consulting business.

I should mention here that I live in the 3 flat where she also lives, so most of the rules about RLTO don't apply to me (only buildings of 6 units or larger apply)From the RLTO (a) Dwelling units in owner-occupied buildings containing six units or less; provided, however, that the provisions of Section 5-12-160 shall apply to every rented dwelling unit in such buildings within the City of Chicago5-12-160 says no lockouts, threats of lockouts, seizures of property, etc.

Before you buy a property, first check this link: http://www.dea.gov/seizures/index.html for drug laboratory history.Last thing I'd want is for you to buy and learn that you must spend extra $$$ required on extensive rehab on drug or meth houses!

I think the first refers to Prop 36, the clean-up/seizure of a drug lab http://www.capcentral.org/high_court/arc_2005_cal.aspxThe second one looks like public storage facilities and the third involves settling an estate.I would check into the third and probably avoid the first....it will be tied up in legal proceedings for a while.

Another red flag that I see once in a while is a borrower will record a bogus affidavit that says that they belong to a sovereign nation and are exempt from property seizure etc...these were being passed around by the foreclosure avoidance scammers and they are totally meaningless but give you an insight into the owner's frame of mind.

I thought the homestead exemption is only relevant if you are trying to get protection from the seizure of your property due to a collection on the debt (like a bankruptcy).
