This is almost an identical scenario to the one I had with the four-plex earlier in the month, except that I was ready to pay the 30K over asking price until the financial markets started to tank!

If you "undo" the things to get it to comply as an SFR, wouldn't that be considered mortgage fraud?

It is a ranch style property, both units mirror image each other and are identical in size.

So I wouldn't have even considered this applicant.Also, keep in mind that while it's possible the applicant is concerned about identity theft, it's just as likely (if not more) that they're not providing you their SSN because they're hiding something (i.e. bad credit, collection accounts, evictions, etc) and they don't want you to find out.

Do you think an agent, particularly whose client is just a bank, would lie and risk going to jail for fraud so they can make an extra $100?
