Is there another medium for finding such properties?

Between all of the comments, I'm sure we can find a happy medium to hopefully make this situation better.

Yes, there IS a LOT of fraud going on.The key lesson is actually to NEVER do wire transfer instructions by ANY medium other than in person with someone you know is part of the transaction, such as your title agent.

They are in nice family neighbourhoods in medium sized towns in Canada (30,000-90,000 popn size) and rent for $1050-1350 depending on the home.You can always make a list of all the items, but only put a total on the list.
