Charles,I don't know if there are any advantages for not sharing your profile, but I will tell you why I didn't share my profile when I first started.I think my main reason was that I hadn't told everyone that I was investing in real estate, so I didn't want to disclose all my personal information for the fear that someone I know might stumble upon BP and learn what I was upto.
