Honestly, your post is too analytical so I "glazed" over.As I was taught, your home is not an investment because you don't want to risk the roof over your head. 

I did a quick search and discovered that AllTheRooms, the source behind the story, is data analytics company that studies the short term rental market. 

Whether it's intentional or not analytics and algorithms can be badly flawed...
