I know i am over- simplifying but i wouldn't do anything other than good ole blocking and tackling until i consistently exhausted these.

This is a second floor (top floor) unit in Chicago.We think the water might be getting in through the roof ventilation for the microwave/stove exhaust -- then travelling along the exhaust pipes to the microwave which is over the stove, and dripping down.  

Heating - if the furnace has a plastic exhaust vent then it's high efficiency, if its metal your heating costs will be higher.

I hear ads on the radio from time to time of certain charities accepting real estate donations, that would likely give you a tax deduction but make sure you check with a tax professional or attorney for tax matters though.Believe me when I say that I have exhausted every possible way of getting rid of the property or putting it to some form of use.
