All entry doors (in Calif) must be solid core, not like hollow core closet doors.Depending upon the floor plan, you may also need a fire-door rating -- just ask the City Codes department.

Now, I guess my biggest fear or what bothers me the most about these potential houses is that most of these core things have not been completely gutted and updated in near 100 years and the sellers are asking prices which don't make sense to me if I were to consider gutting the property to completely redo electrical and plumbing.

The problem is that even though we know a primary residence should also be thought of as an investment, it pains us to think about having to commute into the Seattle core every day and back out.
