I recently did an inspection on a commercial property we are buying and I asked the inspector to skip 80% of his normal routine and focus on electrical, plumbing, and the roof because I'm pretty familiar with the building and comfortable checking most things myself.

I think if one can remove the prospect of his own occasional use of the property for his own leisure, then longer term rental is probably less stressful because you don't have to deal with the routine cleaning.
