This is part of my loan process - a discovery and strategy session with the client to understand their scenario, future plans, and overall situation so I can structure the loan to fit into it. 

For investing, I'd always recommend house hacking to start off, as it's the most approachable strategy, and you also learn very quickly if you like owning rentals or not.

Don't let anyone tell you that X strategy doesn't work in this market or that market, all BS.

I've not invested with 5S so I can't comment on their product and management specifically but I can say for build to rent, if you’re considering this, ask yourself: Does this fit your investment strategy and comfort level?

Can you locally house hack and do the room by room strategy? 

New to this local market, I wonder whether buy and hold is a good strategies for this market (balanced between cash flow and appreciation for class A or B, I know cash flow is difficulty in general given today's real estate environment )?
