Banks do not allow "assignemnts of contracts" without written consent on REO or short sale properties so a double close is necessary in most cases.There are several other methods to wholesale without double closing and without "assignments".

You have a right to get his banking information if you're going to hire him and he's consenting to perform services for you.But most importantly, as others have stated, get several local references and personally go check them out.
