@Nicholas Tanner, first of all, congrats for getting in the business so early.If I were in your shoes, I'd track down a mentor and study under them. 

I'm sure others will disagree, but they haven't walked in my shoes or seen what I have seen.

This is like asking someone how to tie their shoes  its just something that you do and once experienced  you just know when you walk in.

Put yourself in the shoes of this hypothetical mentor; What kind of person (traits, work ethic, level of understanding) would you like to take on as a mentee if you were the person you are seeking?

If that's what your plan is, the only one that I would be concerned about if I were in your shoes would be the last one.  

If you do end up going with a floating floor, you'll need to lay shoe molding (easier option than replacing the trim completely) and it could end up looking rather stupid if the trim is too short as a result of leaving the tile in.That being said, if you do decide on a floating floor, look in to Home Depot's Allure ISOCORE.
