To make a long story short I ended up getting stuck with all debt that we had accrued during the marriage.

Plus, stuff happens...move, marriage, divorce, kids, can't management, don't want to manage...and you want the property to support your life decisions.We psychologically inflate the value of things that we already own over items we don't own...it's called the endowment effect. 

As tenants by the entirety, a married couple owns all interest in the real estate and this tenancy can only be terminated by the death of one of the tenants, the dissolution of the marriage of the tenants or a conveyance of the interest in the property.

Partnerships are great...but they can also be a source of contention.Getting out of a bad partnership is harder than getting out of bad marriage.  

The courts would see right through that attempt.I'm also not sure if marriage implies joint ownership or not (marriage laws are crazy and vary, so just something to ask your attorney about).I second the usefulness of an umbrella policy as well as, of course, being aware of your local rental laws, requirements, and regulations.

You may find a passport or marriage license or some other personal docs in there.

@Logan Jorns early on in our marriage a live-in flip was the only way we could afford the size of house (4 kids) and big garage (car guy hubby) and land (small time farmers at heart) that we wanted but couldn't afford to buy already done.
