How many people have the idea of buying a duplex to live in one side and rent out the other?

This would raise our mortgage by ~ $700/month, which is a lot, but still makes our total mortgage payment well below rental on a 4bd, 2 bath.So, my question for the great minds of BP is, is this a good idea?

I’m brainstorming ideas on how I can market myself to potential mentors in the STR game in order to gain experience.

I think the house flows really well in person (open floorplan, high ceilings, large house with spacious room sizes) and you just can’t represent that in 2-D photosI’m honestly not sure how to do a video or 3D virtual walk-through or whatever, I haven’t looked into it and have no idea how much it costs.

@Daniel HymanThanks for the idea but another problem I have with using the government internet is a lot of things on websites don't work because of the firewall and network settings so when I try to apply for the account it just doesn't go to anything.

I love the idea of house hacking a value-add duplex.

I like the screening idea. 

In 7 months, they have not produced ONE lead to close as guaranteed on their website (Launch Your Leads…LYL) A background  was performed prior to signing up, but we had no idea they were doing previous fraudulent scams under another name called Amplify My Business .
