Just making sure tax benefits are not your primary reason for getting in to them :) IRS knows if you have 100k w2 then it's very hard to afford an STR, IRS likes to create a self-inflicting rules.Basically IRS says you can tax loss if you can do such and such but only if you're poor enough to do such thing.

Thats not to say they won't because it is obviously unfair we won't keep giving them extension, putting up with unapproved pets, and letting them live in filth but at least those are self inflicted complaints they would  have on us.
