Research ways to use your education to help you qualify for a loan (did you know that some lenders allow college credits that translate directly to the line of work the graduate pursues to count towards work experience, accelerating the borrower's opportunity to get approved for a mortgage?). 

The way I did it is I built up total confidence through first education and second entrepreneurship.

White collar professionals, higher education rates.

We had a couple companies come in and give wild quotes to rework our system, then found a guy who showed up with schematics and trade journal articles on our particular system, spent 2 hours educating us on it, then cost about $500 to go around and fix all the crappy work previous "contractors" did to the system to try "fixing" it. 

In the future, you might try to educate yourself about heating systems and their running costs.

Educate and then execute.
