Interesting note about the fire hazard @Paul Gill I've never thought of or encountered that issue.  

There should be a sticker on the tank right next to the gas valve that explains how to turn the gas valve off.There should be a sticker on the tank with the model number and date of manufacture.

. - if most of the stock you'll be looking at is colonial construction with 1500 sq ft, use that as the basis of your questions).Know every price for that house and then see how it translates to different houses by adjusting up or down according to the various housing stock you may encounter in your area.Determining the vintage of the current components in a house can help.  

I have been accused of making things black and white, but I find it much easier to come to a conclusion if I can keep gray to a minimum.With the 'dumbing down of America', it is getting more and more difficult to have any type of deep discussion regarding philosophy, reason and theory.We are living in a 'bumper sticker' society.
