But, it's also a very small job with many of the costs, like cleaning brushes, rollers, equipment, driving to the job, accounting, etc. that would be applied as fixed costs to a much bigger job.

But I think you will enjoy some of the soft benefits of having a retail and rental operation combined: depreciation, other tax benefits, economies of scale in remodeling, multiple exit strategies, volume to maintain agent relationships, etc.

He's talking about private home buyers and he's suggesting to keep renting, because the market will go soft again. he's saying that in certain parts of the country, it's cheaper to rent than to buy.
