I have a degree in Chemical Engineering and I currently work full time as a senior manager for a corporation down here, and I love what I do.

Families and corporate groups alike can travel in large groups driving a few hours away.  

I know that Chicago has it's fair share of economic and political issues, but it's also a big City with a lot of positive aspects. 

Most if not all I've seen have lending corporations.

I have a corporate line of credit without one.

I am not familiar with the zoning boards, but have heard they can be very political despite an investors best intentions for the property and neighborhood.Illegal duplexes exist all over the city, and I’ve heard that continuing to use it as such is less of a risk due to the lack of enforcement by the city.

My husband works for our business full time as the general contractor, while I have maintained my position with a great corporation who has been my employer for 15 years.

I understand the liability limiting aspect of an LLC is ruined if you "pierce the corporate veil", so I want to make sure to avoid that.

And positioned to not get hurt.If anyone an make sense out of opportunity zones @Natalie Kolodij will do  it.One other option that could make sense is to take $150K cash and put it into a debt free fractional product with a long term corporate lease.
