If you can't pay off that $12k before the grace period is up, you are going to be shoveling out a lot of cash on interest carrying costs - costs, btw, which are not eligible for deduction like mortgage interest.

You're probably way better off simply holding the lots, generating income if you can, and limiting your entitlements to legal rights only never touching a shovel.

Childhood - cut lawns, shoveled snow, baby-sat, cleaned and painted my mom's apt. houses, had a bait stand at the lake (to make gas money for the boat and water-skiing), lied about my age at 15 to get a cashier job for 30hrs/week in high school, had a full-time summer job and worked another 30 hrs all through college.
