The Killeen area has a better chance of economic diversification in the near future with the designation of Interstate 14 and a larger workforce and lopsided renter-heavy market.

I was recently listening to the latest podcast episode of BP (#229 Early retirement through short-term rental properties) and it kinda of struck a cord with me.

I see it as a great form of OPM as it is unsecured, and you can pay $50 or $500 based on if you had a good or bad month as long as you pay the entire balance off by the end of your interst free period.Obviously i am leaving out the risks involved with this type of financing, but i wanted to open up a discussion to see if other people are doing this, and if there is anything i am missing.Thanks,

South of interstate 10 is okay over there and has begun turning around as renters are attracted by closeness to downtown. 

Would you suggest hiring a property manager company to manage smaller apartment buildings (say around 10 units for example) if that is the only investment I can currently afford, and is there any other option with regards to finding someone to manage the property for me being interstate if cash flow from a small apartment complex doesn't allow for the additional expense of a property manager? 

Seeing as you are out of state I would advise buying only properties that are outside the Interstate 465 loop as inside the loop is tricky unless you live here.

For the sake of our own personal residence, my wife and I chose Lowell 14 years ago based largely upon, among other things, the interstates— Lowell lies right at the crossroads, whereas Haverhill is on 495, but it’s a hike to either 95 or 93.

This new district has a dozen or so lots developed and divided for purchase that sit right next to a new interstate highway exit.
