I don't have any background in building or art but I'm kind of looking at a winter holed up on top of a mountain and would like to try something totally new and outside my comfort zone just to see if I can do it!

Finding deals is a bit of an art.

Weather, politics, schools, crime, location of family and friends, employment opportunities, social and environmental aspects, diversity, cultural, arts and entertainment, cost of living, taxes, population density; are just some of the reasons. 

I am betting on public transportation especially, if in conjunction with commerce, art & other entertainment.
