I bought the house when it was tax value appraised for 55K, then had it contested to 30K. 

A couple of things, #1 Contest the tax assessment and you can probably get some discount #2 property taxes are more closely related to the neighborhood than to the actual condition of a home.

I sware, people are in a pissing contest as to who can aquire the most debt to look rich.

Especially on higher values assets because they will fight with an expensive contested foreclosure (I also learned to vet lawyers that cap contested FC to $5K just incase).  

Unfortunately, over-leveraged analytically is a massively contested debate.

In her case, she was able to contest the 2nd lien and was able to get this ruled in her favor, due to negligence of account tracking by the lien holder. 

For any legal action regarding your property, you will have to be registered in the state (think eviction or any contesting of a code violation).

The law is being contested, because it's ridiculous.
