Neither of those sites impact your credit score because they do a soft pull on your credit.Other than that, don't open up too many credit cards at once (maybe 2 cards total), because too much at once impacts your score in a few ways (hard inquiries, new trade lines, and age of credit history).Last, pay your bills on time...late payments really negatively impact your score.

I had discussed the situation with others outside of this forum, and they had said that I was being too understanding / soft; I had decided on a tougher approach, which is why I put things the way I did in my original post here.

Naturally, after hearing that, they don't pull them (why would they incur more expense and necessitate their work passing pesky inspections if he tells them they don't have to?)  Well

The soil might be weak or soft and the footings might have been poured without addressing that. 

The one thing I started doing two years ago is stocking the fridge with bottled water, the freezer with two pizzas, a custom pizza cutter with my contact information on it and a roll of paper towels.

Look for signs of water damage, marks on the floor, soft wood, stains, etc.

It is very soft.
