Go around the nation, you'll notice this is a common trend.You need to bid deeper, and agents need to start pricing things more appropriately. 

There will be a lot of agents advertising their market, and while this can be annoying, it can also be helpful when searching for areas to look in. 

Regarding your agent, definitely look for someone else.

Is he going to just tell you to knock on doors and write letters, or is he going to introduce you to well vetted agents in your market that are known to source deals and sell for realistic prices?

To answer the title of your post, selling fsbo can be a good idea if:- you have experience selling RE- you price the home to sell- you have systems in place to collect inquiries and facilitate showings i.e. call center/email/google forms for screening inquiries, showing agent, lockbox, security alarm, etc. - you have dozens of local agents who can market the property for you and bring you a buyer- you are listing in a desirable area with low-inventory - you are not in a rush to sell
