AK's been an interesting place to look at, and may consider visiting...my road trips have only taken be through the lower 48, so #49 may be a good, future trip...for obvious reasons, I can't take a =road trip= to #50...unless I can get a dirt cheap surplus amphib vehicle!

in most states vacant property insurance is sold through whats called a surplus line. they wont make you write a one yr policy however three months may cost you 1200.

I have had customers with 2-3 claims on a property and now they are struggling to find a carrier that will accept them and their only options are typically to go to a non-admitted surplus lines carrier which has very high premiums.Speaking as an agent i say its better to have the coverage and not need than to need it and not have it (or not enough of it).
