We are leasing a large industrial warehouse for 2 years to utilize as a build space to build the walls and parts of the roof in the warehouse and then shipping the pieces to be assembled onsite.

Subsequently, we discovered multiple leaks in the roof, resulting in water damage, including mold growth in our closet.

People have to have a roof over their heads.

I was approached by someone who has the resources (men and material as he was in roofing business) to partner up and buy MFs. 

We did a light rehab which included paint, carpet, fixtures, turf in the backyard, and a new roof.

I would like to at least see that the house is there and the roof is not caved in, etc.

You do not own the roof over your head.

Just out of La Celle-St-Cloud, Paris the 'cottages' were on a small island & had thatched roofs & the buildings & gardens were very well kept.

I point out that even if the building didn't need much work in the last 20 years,  many systems (roofs, water heaters, paint, windows,  and may other things) were clearly wearing out and may not last much longer and to avoid unpredictable expenses a proactive approach was necessary to start upgrading)I then followed up with individual conversations with residents which helped me to understand their finances a bit and hopefully understand their ability to pay and what assistance program(s) they may already be getting or be eligible for.
