Nothing screams "Hey, empty house with new stuff" like having old carpet, appliances and paint cans sitting in the driveway.I've found it helps to be friendly, even try to meet the neighbors rather than have an adversarial relationship right off the bat.If they don't like you, I doubt it's because you're white.

However, it doesn't seem likely that you will qualify for one of them if you plan to use the funds to invest in real estate.With that said - if you find a screaming deal and can get a property for less than 10% of its fair market value, it wouldn't be the worst trade off.
