We live in one of the only countries on earth where even poor people can be obese, so if they want to start their own business or pursue some other passion while they are young, then as long as they aren't a burden on their parents or taxpayers, why judge them?

I drove by a house that was boarded up. I looked on the tax accessor's website, it shows the county public works as the tax payer.
Are properties listed as such not easy to obtain a deal on?

As a Canadian resident you need to pay taxes on world wide income. 1031 exchange defers tax payments to the IRS but not to the CRA.

@Diana MedinaIt might be advisable to consult a tax CPA/EA before you begin going down the road toward this transaction.IRC Sec 1031(a)(2) explicitly states that section 1031 does not apply if the real estate asset being acquired is held for sale in the ordinary course of a taxpayer's trade or business.
