Even if you can't find a mentor, consider finding a friend/partner with complimentary skillsets (if you're really good at business aspects, find someone with construction experience, or vise versa).

"Check out 'X' and 'Y' books and take a listen to 'So-and-So's' podcast" is much more useful to new posters than "Try Google and be less lazy", especially when there are so many predatory gurus, courses, ebooks, etc.
