The principal residence exemption formula looks like this: (# of years of principal residence + 1)(capital gain) / # of years owned" This is definitely a huge relief for us as I was anticipating a much higher tax cut - I also just finished school/bar exam so I feel this is the best time since I don't have an income yet.
