At least I dumped a bag of cat food on the porch for the feral cats. 3 cats immediately ran up to eat.

REIA groups are truly a "mixed bag" so be careful there,  as more often than not they can become "pitch festivals" where everyone speaking is selling a product.

I take my dogs out a couple times daily (kids also take them out as well), we carry extra grocery bags, the plastic ones, in out pockets and immediately remove the offense soon as its dropped from the animals exaust.

Make sure to give rooms special touches even though you won't great people bottles of water, fruit, bag of chips can go a long way for a hungry traveler.

Hopefully we won't repeat 1983 ever again, but being able to identify where we are in that cycle should be apart of every local REI's tool bag.
