Now they want to be reimbursed because they repaired a property that someone else owns.Being the buyer I recommend not doing anything that is costing you money or time that you are not prepared to donate to the current owner.

:)On a less radical note, you'd have to consider bunching up 2 years of deductions (property taxes & donations) into 1 year, every other year.

Working with the city not just with words but backing up up with huge donations and renovations.A big part is the city didnt give young professionals reason to want to stay.

I know this because I run a chapter of a charity (Sleep in Heavenly Peace) in my town that builds beds for kids that don’t have beds and Lowe’s has been an amazing partner, donating tools, lumber, and their time to help us building and deliver beds to these kids.
