Along the coastline from central California (those in the bay area. think they live in northern CA but don't) south to San Diego have areas with extremely expensive real estate.

It is a pretty hilly region compared to, say, Texas or the Florida coastline.

Now something I did not know was that the many other homes not like this one but the nice palatial estates along the La Jolla cliffs that go for 10 million plus cannot be financed and must be purchased cash because that area is the fastest eroding coastline in the U.S. and parts of the houses up there frequently fall in the ocean.

Upgrade the house if you need rental income to appeal to out of state renters...and keep a week free for yourself to visit some of the most beautiful coastline in the USA!

@Jay Hinrichs One reason places need to cash flow in the twin cities area is that we do not get as much appreciation as the coastline or other larger areas. 

I can predict with 100% confidence any real estate within 5 miles of the coastline from SF to SD will appreciate 100% in 30 years.

This property is in Largo, not beach front, roughly 5-7 miles from any coastline and no history of hurricane damage. 

With the amount of coast line in Michigan there are an insane amount of opportunities for STR.
