Finance Minister Mike de Jong announced new rules Tuesday aimed at ending the controversial practice of 'shadow flipping' by eliminating a means for anyone but the seller of a house to profit from real estate contract assignment.The CBC News article can be read here.Naturally, the provincial government's attempt to curb this form of racketeering in the Lower Mainland's drastically overheated housing market will only be as good as the ability to enforce it {look out for a rise in unreported "side deals"}.It also sounds like this change pretty much puts to rest any thoughts of wholesaling that does not involve purchasing, then reselling.

It is a hard racket right now; with the shortages of housing, too many buyers, and a all time high of real estate agents...it's tough.

I know it's not a lot of cost but title companies just kind of seem like a racket to me with the fees they charge on a property that you know is already free and clear of liens.

Not only did we have to pay for another POS inspection, but they then found a brand new laundry list of violations which ended up costing us an additional $4,500.00.Let's just say it's quite a racket they're running over there.
