I have renovated many homes including work such as drywall, wall construction, stucco, drywall texture, wood and laminate floor installation, prefab cabinet installation, calking, trim, basic electrical light/fan/switch and utility installation, tile/grout, basic plumbing/sink/toilet installation, door framing, etc...I can post pics of my renovation work if that's necessary for assessment of my capabilities.  

They will get spots but can be cleaned so get a darker texture for visual benefit before cleaning. 

@Guy Yoes HELOC interest will no longer be deductible on new or preexisting loans if used to....pay debt, buy jet skis, ect it's gone. 

I just put the Performance line in another house, love the texture, we'll see how they hold up.

(I assume this is b/c of all the texture in the shakes, maybe it takes a long time to get it all coated.) 

On my properties, I have them professionally jetted out every 3-5 years.  

Closing took a few extra days, I had to install a new jet pump before closing to get water tested.

When I’m doing a low income unit in the projects, it’s dark As for what’s in now, white shakers are the trend, however gray stained cabinets where you see the grain is very in, as well as textured melamine.

For the rest of the wall up to the ceiling, you could use a non-textured quarter inch MDF.
