I've found that paint color is a) extremely personal and preference often is a matter of a very small variance in shade and b) too many people make the mistake of believing they are capable of choosing a color that will be universally accepted.

there were a few other weird things from her, like another life threatening danger, a string on one of the window shades was apparently long enough that her 7 year old might be able to walk by and entangle himself and die from it choking him.

I would just poly them (which you can buy with a stain therein to make them darker if desired) and some new hardware would make them look like a million bucks.

That's why I may look into the darker colors as you stated or an espresso stained look of sortts.Either way you guys have given me a ton to think about.
