I know you said that if you sold it you would take the wall down and take the kitchen out, but that is also an additional cost and a big PIA.As I mentioned before, If you ever have to put in an insurance claim you might be immediately denied (I am not an insurance agent, so I could be wrong about that). 

I figured the bank would deny it if i used my own credit. 

Thanks for the link @Chris T. the 3 times income to rent rate and clean credit score may help... i think more so in the more expensive markets, but in lower income housing... i think you'll be hard pressed to find an applicant with clean credit or income that can back your justification on denying the ex-con..?  

And depending on some of the questions above he may have had every right to deny the showing.

It was clear that one brother was just trying to help the other brother get approved, so I denied them.  

A quick example, a tenant threatened to sue for health issues relating to black mold (home has never had any water issues or reason to believe there is mold), because I denied their request for a new washer machine (old one works perfectly fine).

Even in Washington, where it is legal to grow your own in small amounts, I know that people have been denied re-fi's if there was even a single plant in the house.

By perpetuating the social stigma of being a "felon"; denying access to employment, denying access to housing..you do nothing but encourage recidivism..and continue the vicious cycle..which is exactly what your government and for-profit prison industrial complex wants. - A productive member of society who was once a court date away from being a convicted felon.
