It's hard to use OPM if you have no experience whatsoever.

No matter the economy people don't stop brushing their teeth, eating or cutting off their prescribed meds; similarly, they never stop needing some place to live (though they may substitute lower cost alternatives, so higher end rentals may be more at risk).

Who cares that they are misrepresenting the truth and lying through their teeth - this behaviour would be consistent with their other actions.

The only question is how you can minimize the negative impact to you.So gritting your teeth and smiling may be the best answer.Going forward you may want to consider using assignable contracts with no advance indication that you are in a 1031 exchange.
