It reminds me so much of the Eastern Block under the Soviet Union where you couldn't control your own private property and everyone operated in fear, knowing their neighbors could report the slightest violation and destroy their life.

I fixed the damage at my cost and reminded them that no further alterations are allowed (my mistake number 1 - should have charged them for it but this was right before COVID and they were already complaining about the high rent in their lease given other landlords were reducing rents to fill vacancies).

My title company...despite my reminding them multiple times "don't forget the pro-rated rents and security deposits" leading up to closing...forgot the pro-rated rents and SDs.
