I am strongly considering opening a Self Administered, Self Directed i401k so that one of the investment vehicles can be - you guessed it - real estate notes and mortgages.With that said, I don't want to preclude myself from having a brokerage account to hold cash and hopefully earn some money in the stock market when I don't have the money lent in real estate.My question is this: Do the brokerages (IE: Fidelity, etc), understand this arrangement?

I know the canned response is something along the lines of ''read the CCR of the HOA", but in your experience, are these Associations focused on these things or just keeping the flowers to the entryway of the neighborhood looking good?

I am living out of state due to work, but am in the process of acquiring a new property in my home state for the purpose of 1) temporary living arrangement, due to possible relocation back to home state, and 2) eventual long-term rental property as this one will cashflow very well.
