I am starting a project to subdivide a property I own--in the heart of Silicon Valley and in the CUSD--and plan to sell one of the two homes as soon as possible.  

After a few of these buy and hold properties, I'll retire comfortably with millions in assets (assuming silicon valley doesn't go completely dead).

Car sales, insurance, real estate, self checkout at the grocery store, and retail,etc.The largest taxi company in the world doesn’t own any cars (uber).The largest hotel company in the world owns no properties (AirBNB).If you can think of an industry someone in Silicon Valley is trying to move your cheese.

Its nearly impossible in the heart of Silicon Valley.

It's only a quick flight from Vegas but has a more stable appreciation market that is geographically restricted from building and is closest to Silicon Valley which is drawing tech jobs into the area like Tesla and Google.

I grew up in the Bay Area (Oakland) and worked in the Silicon Valley (Sunnyvale / SJ) for many years, I know there is an uphill battle you are facing with housing and weighing your options. 

I acquired a number of SFRs primarily in the 2010 to 2013 time frame in the Silicon Valley area and those have massively appreciated and all are all very solid Cash Flow Generators.

I held properties in Silicon Valley long term that 'cost money every month' but those same properties also made money every month all depending on how you did the math, and what you were willing to tolerate.
