Start by getting pre-approved for a loan, ensuring your credit score, debt-to-income ratio, and finances meet lender requirements.

By doing this, you’ll avoid any surprises down the road and ensure the deal still makes sense for you financially.

However, i'll likely be looking at additional ways down the road to be even more secure for a backup what if scenario.  

My advice: don’t overthink it—your first house hack is about learning, so pick a strong rental market, ensure solid demand, and lock in a deal that gets you close to break-even or better.
