The only payment that gets delayed if the property isn't delivered on time is the last payment due on delivery, unless stated otherwise in your contract.

You need to show them how you can be a solution to their troubles and then actually deliver on that.

I made a similiar mistake in business, paying $1.1M upfront for promises and had no way to cut losses when those promises were not delivered on.

I would retort that one can deliver both low price and high quality to real estate brokerage.
