The taxes can make things difficult, but there are some things you can do to minimize their impact.  

They can provide serious cash flow with minimal owner involvement.  

Doing a quick scan off I see there are about 5k STRs in Colorado Springs (assuming you are there and not a neighboring town I am gonna say the town has minimal restrictions).

Does not include upkeep which is minimal after year 3.  

I'm reading a book now where the author purchased hundreds per year putting minimal amounts down, that doesn't work anymore.
